Stored Procedure Call Problem

I'm having all sorts of problems getting an informix 5.01 stored
procedure to execute properly from PowerBuilder 4.01. The procedure
works fine when I execute it from dbaccess (informix query tool on
the back end). I narrowed the problem down to the SYSTEM call. Here's
a simple stored procedure I wrote that will not execute properly when
called from PowerBuilder:
CREATE PROCEDURE reserve_child()
SYSTEM "echo hello > /tmp/hello.txt";END PROCEDURE
When I execute the procedure from the backend it works fine.
Permissions on the procedure are wide open. To convince myself of
this, I defined some returning values and put a simple select in the
procedure after the SYSTEM call. When I run from PB, it skips over
the SYSTEM call and executes the select and returns values properly
to PB. The procedure is definitely firing, but the SYSTEM call being
skipped over.
My environment is as follows:
PC: Windows 3.11, Power Builder Enterprise 4.01 (baseline version)
Informix Net 5.01 for PC, Beame & Whiteside TCP-Connect stack
UNIX: Unisys U6000/75, Dynix/Ptx 1.3.1 (sys 5.3 kernel), Informix 5.01
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
