You should try the OpenLink multi-tier driver for Informix on Linux instead. This way you do not need anything on the client, only a generic TCP/IP-using OpenLink client, and a request broker and database agent on the linux server. This is faster than I*Connect, more configureable, and usable from other client platforms, especially Java etc. It's all available for free non-expiry evaluation download from OpenLink's website, <http://www.opnelinksw.com/> onwards.
