Unfortunately the SPAM bots troll the various thousands of newsgroups and as soon as you post something they have your email address. These dasterdly individuals then bundle a few million of these email addresses and sell them to various other unsavory types that blast SPAM out to the known world. Part of the society we live in. Yes everyone with a PC should have virus protection - but new virus's are unleased everyday and the Norton and McAffee's of the world continue to play catch up. Also note that while the IIUG provides an email interface to the comp.databases.informix list they do not own the list - it is a public forum and as such... That being said - If possible the IIUG could/should filter all newsgroups for virus's and if found bit-bucket the offensive email...if the IIUG would implement something like a SPAM assassin software package - which assigns points to 'suspect' email behaviour and if the total for the email is over your preset tolerance level (mine is set to 5 points) it can mark the header with a SPAM prefix, bit-bucket the email or several other options. Of course this can be legitimate email with people who use ALL CAPS in some words, point to web sites, put a remove clause in the email, etc. Anyone care to comment.
