Informix Database Supports Microsoft's Windows NT INFORMIX-SE Available on NT Advanced Server Platform at First Shipment Informix to Demo Technology at Windows World, Atlanta; Worldwide Demos Also Planned ATLANTA, Georgia -- (May 24, 1993) -- Informix Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:IFMX) today announced its support of Microsoft Windows NT operating system platform. Informix will first make available INFORMIX-SE, the company's mid-range relational database management system, on the Windows NT Advanced Server operating environment. The product will be available concurrently with Microsoft's release of the operating environment. An early release version of INFORMIX-SE on Windows NT will be demonstrated at the Windows World Conference in Atlanta, May 24-27, in the Microsoft booth (Booth # W8214). As a key Microsoft ISV partner, Informix will also demonstrate the product at other events in conjunction with Microsoft's worldwide rollout. "We are pleased to see a strong committment from Informix on Windows NT," said David Thacher, group product manager, Windows NT at Microsoft. "Databases are key components in making Windows NT a great client/server platform. INFORMIX-SE is an ideal product for developers looking for a simple, low-cost solution for midrange computing on Windows NT." "Bringing our technology and products to Windows NT is a critical component in further fulfilling our customer's open systems computing vision," said Tim Shetler, vice president of Product Marketing at Informix. "INFORMIX-SE will be the first of our products to be made available on the NT platform. Our complete line of database servers and application development tools will be available on NT within the coming year." "Because of its unequaled reliability, easy administration and early availability on the Windows NT platform, INFORMIX-SE will give developers an early start and advantage by working with proven database technology for the Windows NT platform," said Shetler. "The advantages are enormous-- both for the developer and the corporate user alike." INFORMIX-SE is the most popular mid-range database server on UNIX systems and is based on ANSI SQL standards. The product is an excellent database foundation for the thousands of VARs who will be expanding applications to NT. INFORMIX-SE provides a powerful, yet easy-to-use relational database management system where only a minimum of database administration expertise is required. It also provides high performance and sophisticated features that assure data consistency in multiuser configurations, along with a reputation for reliability that has been proven through tens of thousands of installations worldwide. Other key client/server features of INFORMIX-SE include: stored procedures, which reduces message traffic in a client/server environment; triggers, a database mechanism that automatically invokes, or "triggers," a specified set of SQL statements or stored procedures when a particular event occurs within a table or series of tables; and ANSI SQL-89-compliant declarative integrity constraints, which bring added security to a database by enforcing a set of safety checks on all applications accessing the data.
