utils2_ak Makefile help needed

Good afternoon,
I am on an HP-UX system, 11.23 64-bit with HP's Ansi/C++ compiler with
Informix IDS 10.00.FC5 64-bit engine. I have downloaded utils2_ak for
the purpose of using the 'myexport' tool. However, I am receiving and
error when I use make to build the package:
# make
Make: Must be a separator on rules line 72. Stop.
I think this is wake make is complaining about in the Makefile:
cpp -DC4GL_720_COMPILER=1 $? >$@_4gl.ec <---- Line 72
Here is the surrounding code in the Makefile
# For dostats: Some platforms may require the addition of '-cp' to the
# compile line above to eliminate spurious warnings caused by dual
# declaration of getrowcount() for C4GL use. -- Art S. Kagel
dostats: dostats.ec $(GETOPT)
ifeq ($(ESQL),c4gl)
cpp -DC4GL_720_COMPILER=1 $? >$@_4gl.ec <---- Line 72
INFORMIXC=$(INFORMIXC) $(ESQL) $(ECFLAGS) -o $@ $@_4gl.ec
rm $@_4gl.ec
else
INFORMIXC=$(INFORMIXC) $(ESQL) $(ECFLAGS) -o $@ $?endif
I would be very grateful for any suggestions and help with resolving
this complaint from make compiler.
TIA,

Jonathan,
The problem is that you have the default UNIX make and unfortunately the
makefile was coded using GNU Make conditional statements. You can edit the
two makefiles, Makefile and myschema.d/myschema.mk.norcs and remove the
conditionals. Instructions for doing that are in the BUILDING file, but
basically in Makefile remove everything from the "ifeq" to "else" inclusive
and remove the "endif" following the second line containing $(ESQL) command
leaving only that line. In the myschema.d/myschema.mk.norcs file the change
is similar except that I used an "ifneq" there.
I'm going to send you the next release of utils2_ak directly as it has a
couple of fixes that will help you use it in a 64bit environment and with
myexport, so make the changes to that version when you get it.
