Backup (was: Moving SE Database)
Posted in 1998
Hi,
I just checked out moving an SE 5.x Database to another partition.
Seems, like everything works OK. Now I'm thinking of adding the
complete database files to our daily backup for desaster recovery
(it's just 150 MB so no problem to compress them on the tape). Until
now we just run dbschema, unload all tables and output structure and
data to the tape. On a disk crash we rebuild the complete database
from scratch. But when moving an SE to a new partition is OK, a
restore of all *files* should do the same thing and save us hours of
rebuilding. Am I right?
What about restoring a single database file? Would it work if I stop
the database, restore the file and index files, kill the log and start
the database again?
Questions and questions ;-)
