Re: DIGITAL and INFORMIX

Both Sun and HP have posted some pretty outrageous TPC-C and TPC-D benchmarks lately using V8 Informix VPS and their latest hardware. Just totally wiped the floor with the current Oracle, other DBMS's on similar hardware.... If I were going to be living on the bleeding performance / capacity edge, I'd tend to stick to the tier 1 XPS ports, i.e. Sun, HP first, maybe IBM AIX. From a price / preformance standpoint, my guess for such a large system would be that Sun & HP, in order would probably lead. If you need the fastest possible single processor, or 64 bit virtual addressing DEC Alpha with Digital Unix rules though... depends on what you need. My guess is that Sun E6000 or E10000 building blocks with XPS can handle anything you can throw at it for the lowest bucks. All of course is IMHO.... gm p.s. use your favorite search engine to lookup tranaction processing council or TPC, study benchmarks and results....
