+We did discover that ontape opens TAPEDEV twice during the restore
+and we have a PERL script that forks and execs the uncompress
+(redirecting it to TAPEDEV) and also starts the ontape -r. Essentially
+doing something like the following to perform a restore:
+
+Process 1
+
+(uncompress -c archive.Z > $TAPEDEV; uncompress -c archive.Z > $TAPEDEV)
+
+where the TAPEDEV onconfig parameter is set to the value of $TAPEDEV
+(named pipe) and archive.Z is the the compressed level-0 archive
+written by another script.
+
+Process 2
+
+ontape -r
+
+continue as normal.
Ah, quite clever (also quite unsupported by Informix, but no matter). Does the first
uncompress have to complete before the second one picks up, or will ontape's closing
of it's end of the pipe cause the first uncompress to terminate?
