using onlog with onbar
Posted in 2004
Topics: Backup & Restore
Hi,
Using onlog either reads the contents of the logs from disk if the logs =
have not been backed up yet or from tape using the -d option. However =
this option only works using ontape.
Since I use onbar to save data and logs, I want to know if anyone was =
able to read the logs saved by onbar and how exactly.
Is there a particular hidden option when we use onlog?
Is there a hidden option not documented when using onbar?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

onlog -n (#log) | more
-n : a specific log
I use onbar too and I am able to read the logs either on disk or tape.

This
procedure was given to me a while ago by an IBM/Informix support
engineer. It makes use of some undocumented switches, but it works.
It is particularly useful if you use onbar to backup to files instead of to
tape device, in which case the onlog -d tape_dev will not work.
Be sure to use export BAR_LOGCHECK=1 if you do not use CSH. Also, be sure
to delete files
/tmp/onlog* before running the onbar command.

onbar -P -l <log_unique> may be used to display logical logs backed up with
onbar similar to onlog -d <tapedev> -n <log_unique>.However, onbar does not forsee an option to display the logical log in long
format.
- Move $INFORMIXDIR/bin/onlog to $INFORMIXDIR/bin/onlog_d
- Create a script onlog with the following contents:
------------------------------------------------------
#!/bin/sh
# onlog script used to display logical logs backed up # by onbar in longformat # You will have to remove all /tmp/onlog_* files from # your system
first
cat /tmp/onlog* > /tmp/llog
$INFORMIXDIR/bin/onlog_d -l -p /tmp/llog -c 992
# This command will delete the /tmp/llog file, back it up # in case you want
to rerun the onlog_d command
-------------------------------------------------------
- mv onlog script to $INFORMIXDIR/bin (perm 755)
$ setenv BAR_LOGCHECK
$ rm /tmp/onlog_*
$ onbar -P -l <lunique>
Redirect output to file if desired.
