HP 11.23 Itanium Support increase
Posted in 2012
Kate reported that HP extended factory support for HP-UX 11.23 on Itanium to 2015, but no current Informix release fits: IDS 11.70 isn't certified on 11.23, and IBM told her 11.50 would get no further fix packs, which she considered effectively unsupported. She asked whether other users were affected, since IBM claimed she was alone. Dave Griffen confirmed he had also been refused an 11.23 Itanium build of 11.70. Art Kagel noted his Itanium clients were migrating to x86/Linux, and Fernando Nunes (IBM) argued 11.50 is still fully supported for PMRs and fixes even without new fix packs, and suggested upgrading the OS (11.31) before upgrading Informix. No resolution was reached beyond those workarounds and opinions.

HP has announced that 11.23 Itanium has an extension to the end of factory support to December 2015. http://www.hp.com/softwarereleases/releases-media2/history/slide2.html This is great except for there is no Informix version supported on 11.23 as of today. 11.50 will receive no more fix paks, and 11.70 is not supported on 11.23. Is anyone else affected by this issue out there? IBM claims that I am on the only one who is affected. Thanks! I know of customers running on Itanium, but on 11.31... Can't you upgrade the OS on that platform? Regards. I have two clients on HP/Itanium but both are in the process of moving to x86/64 & Linux. Art Art S. I re-read your post and I don't understand exactly the problem... 11.50 is supported (and will be for a few years) and it supports HP-UX 11.23. So you have a supported version. You don't get 11.70, but 11.23 is 8 years old and it's successor is around 5 years old... It would not make too much sense to have 11.70 supported on an 8 years old platform.... Were you planning to move to 11.70? Which version are you currently using? Regards. I asked for an HP-UX 11.23 Itanium build when 11.70.FC1 was released. I got little more than a reading of an IBM policy about EOMs and EOSs. I thought it was odd that while giving me that line they had 11.70 builds for HP-UX 11.11 PA-RISC fully available.
No I have been told by IBM that there will be no more Fixpaks made for 11.50. I my opinion, that is not supported. Thanks! Yes with a one year project to recompile all the code. You must work for IBM, that is exactly what they say. Thanks! It happens with all versions at some fixpack. You get full support in case you find a problem or simply need help. I really don't see any difference between this and the satus of HP-UX 11.23... supported, but with no improvements since they'll put the improvements in 11.31 or next version... Don't get me wrong... I just don't want other readers to get the idea that with 11.50 they would not be able to open PMRs, get fixes etc. (or in simple terms, get support). In any case, my participation here is personal, not official etc. Having said that I admit I'm probably biased... In any case this is a frequent and common issue that has raised a lot of discussion recently here. Where do you stop as a software supplier? IBM launched 11.7 in October/November 2010. HP, accordingly to your link stopped selling 11.23 on December 2010. Would it make sense to consume resources to test and certificate an OS that had 1 month "to live"? You'll probably say "yes, because I needed it", but I believe this is questionable. But I think you'll be able to manage with 11.50. Fully supported. Once you're prepared to upgrade your platform you can consider an informix upgrade.
