Which version of ESQL/C are you using? Unless you are exploiting some version 4.1x ESQL/C (presumably an SCO port with iBCS on your Linux box), then you should be using DBD::Informix and not DBD::Informix4. If you're using the freely available ESQL/C for Linux, then you have ESQL/C 7.24 and you need to use DBD::Informix.
