Informix 5.00.UC2, SunOS 4.1.3, NIS

Hi, We've got an Informix database that we're accessing with Quintus. For several months, we had been seeing the database go offline every couple of days, and it would do this 3-5 times per day when it was in it's little "mood." The machine itself, a Sparc 10 running SunOS 4.1.3, is also running NIS, which means it should be getting services through NIS. However, on Christmas Day, the last time the database went offline, we discovered that the static /etc/services file was corrupt. We replaced it with a "good" version, and the machine has been stable since. I don't have a "play machine" to be able to confirm/deny that this was the problem. At the same time, to the best of my knowledge, this file shouldn't even be used! Can anyone in this forum tell me whether or not our (admittedly old) Informix would ever use the static /etc/services rather than getting it from NIS? I don't read this newsgroup very often -- maybe I should start -- email replies would be helpful. Thanks. - Jeff -- Jeff Boerio \\\\ URL: http://www.teleport.com/~boerio/ Mgr, Tech.
