Re: DBLANG

Thanks for the input. Upon looking at the $INFORMIXDIR/msg file and comparing it to other working ones, I discovered that when the box had been upgraded this directory had not. The result was old message files trying to work with a newer version of Informix. (the upgrader cheated, but I caught him) It was obtuse... ravi @ in.DHL.COM 07/08/97 11:06 PM Please respond to ravi@in.DHL.COM To: Kate Tomchik/IS/SSC/THD, informix-list @ rmy.emory.edu cc: Subject: Re: DBLANG In reply to Kate_Tomchik@homedepot.com's email about DBLANG, on 8 Jul 97 Hi Kate, > When I try to start up one of my version 7.13 Informix environments > on an HP 9.04 operating system I get the error: > > Cannot find message file. This error is due to non availability of Informix error messages file which are located in msg subdir. of $INFORMIXDIR. According to TFM "Informix : Guide to SQL Reference" and I quote : "DBLANG specifies the subdirectory of $INFORMIXDIR that contains the message file used by your program. The default subdirecotry is msg and the message files have the suffix .iem" So you should find some .iem files in $INFORMIXDIR/msg by default. If this is not so, then you should use the Unix find command, to find where they are and then move (???) that subdir. under $INFORMIXDIR. It also means that the INFORMIX installation on your machine may not have been done properly.
