As far as I can remember, the '.IDX' files are copies of the original '.idx' files and are created by using 'bcheck -s'. I prefer to use straight 'bcheck' at least twice - once to apparently fix any problem and a second time to be sure it's fixed! You can restore the original '.idx' files by renameing the '.IDX' ones, or delete them. As to what caused the original corruption - was a process killed or did the machine fall over whilst altering the system catalogues? Did 'bcheck -s' fix the problem? Hope so! But there are ways if the system catalogues are *still* shot. All is not lost yet!
