It all depends on your requirements and the price you are willing to pay for it. SQL server on NT is certainly cheaper, but will probably not scale as well as Informix does on an UNIX platform. Also, SQL server lacks row level locking. : A stubborn consultant has come to our company and starts to promote Clipper : DBF files as database. And again starts to promote the SQL server on NT. Yuck! What century does this consultant live in? DBF files are certainly not state-of-the-art as database engine, especially when client-server- architecture is required. SQL server on NT, on the other hand, is not bad product per se. : We are currently running Informix 7.11 on RS6000, and is forced to change to : NT with SQL server running on a dual P5. What forces you to change. Informix 7.11 is a very modern product that should be able so serve all your needs. If you absolutely MUST change your server platform to Intel/NT, there is an Informix port to NT!
