Unnecessary, since I'm in charge of the backups and they're controlled at the console which I sit in front of anyway. We're a small company, so if the log files fill, someone will let me know and I'll fix it; no big deal there. : Two would be to write a cron job that would run every five minutes or so : and do essentially the same thing (make sure that the tape backup is : still running. Problem is, we're strapped for space, and even if we do get that 2GB drive we have our eyes on, we'd still be pushing it on heavy days. My employer isn't really made of money or disk space; we're thinking more along the lines of a tape-based solution. Let me start with something simple and take this one step at a time since I left out some critical details (above). To all readers (and I'm not directing the followups to mail only this time): Do you currently use a DAT drive to back up your log files? If so, how often, if at all, do you experience an error, whether it's a problem with the tape or just a hiccup in the drive (which may be the problem in our case--I'm not sure)? Which brand of DAT drive do you use? Since we own a Python drive from the days before the Conner/Seagate buyout, would you suggest a new drive? If you use a 1/4" (QIC) drive, would you recommend trying that for logical log backup? -- * Bruins * Red Sox * Patriots * Celtics * Revolution * Blazers * They suck, they choke, but ya gotta love 'em anyway.
