My undestanding is that the OIJ (Object Interface for Java) has been taken off the table. It was a sweet little system. The biggest problem with JDBC (even 2.0) is that it's a 'data' interface. That is, you send a SQL query and you get back data. The OIJ interface had more of an Object flavor. The query interface was an 'object factory' pattern that would hand you back objects (methods and data) rather than just data. But then a standards committee was formed, and Sun decided that something that looked like ODBC was a good idea, and the rest is JDBC and history. KR Pb
