DELETE ROWS - how to recover disk space

Hi! When I perform this : DELETE FROM <table> WHERE <condition>; Rows are deleted, but I cannot recover the disk space. I know that free rows are used later by new records, but today my disk is more than 95% full and processing time is excessive. Please help me to recover disk space. Any idea will be greatly appreciated. Valerie. * Sent from AltaVista http://www.altavista.com Where you can also find related Web Pages, Images, Audios, Videos, News, and Shopping. Smart is Beautiful
Hi Valery,
Simple way:
Create schemafile of your table:
dbschema -d databasename -t tablename [-ss] schemafile.sql
unload data to another disk, because your disk is full ;-):
dbaccess database - -
> unload to file_on_other_disk select * from tablename;> Press <Del>
Verify the unload file, if ok, drop table from database:
dbaccess database - -
> drop table tablename;> Press <Del>
Build the table again:
dbaccess database schemafile.sql
load data:
dbaccess database - -
> load from file_on_other_disk insert into tablename;> Press <Del>
You also could "alter an index to cluster" but you need the space
the table
uses twice on the device. It may not work with 95 % disk used.
Caution: Make a backup before!
