Any optimization hints for AT&T StarServer E, Informix SE?

We're currently running a dual-processor Configuration 4 (32 MB RAM, 1 GB primary drive), each processor a 486/33. The original DPT 2012B was upgraded to 4.5 MB cache, and supplemented with a newer 2122 SCSI II controller with 4 MB cache. Performance is pretty good supporting Lan Manager 2.1a even with 100+ connected clients, or in compilation. Still, the box is hardly the speed demon I might have hoped for based on published performance papers compared to, say, an a similarly configured Altos or Compaq, especially when running Informix running the Standard Engine. Running one or two reports will generate thousands of system calls per second and drive CPU load from the 5-10% range to well over 60%. I know I should be getting more out of the box, perhaps by tweaking the operating system or Informix. Perhaps those who have succeeded with such optimization could describe just what they did to fully exploit the box. -- uunet!media!irscscm!nearside!shwake shwake@rsxtech
