Hi,
Just check who owns the tables in the query?
What are the permissions on the tables?
Who are you running the query as?
At a minimum, in order to read tables in a database you need connect
permission to the database and permission to read the table.
Often, select permission on a table is granted to public, which gives
everyone the permission to read the table. However this is not always the
case.
When resource permission has been granted to a user, it allows the user to
connect to the database and use the DML statemtents (Select, update,
insert,delete) plus the ability to use some of the DDL statements such as
creating tables. So, having resource instead of connect permission does not
make a deference here.
I suspect that one or more of the tables in your query does not have
explicit priviledges granted to you or to public and you do not own the
table.
That being the case, you need to ask the owner of the table or a DBA to
grant you select permissions on to the table.
To check the permissions on a table from dbaccess:
Dbaccess database
Table or Query-Language
Info
<tablename>
Permissions
If you are not using dbaccess then try
select * from systabauth, systables
where systabauth.tabid = systables.tabid
and tabname = "your-table-name";
For the table systabauth, you would expect to see something like
grantor informix
grantee public
tabid 4
tabauth s--------
The tabauth field shows that this table has select permissions and nothing
else (The 's' is the select permission).
Details of other permission flags that you may see can be found in the Guide
to SQL:Reference

Resource privilege allows a user to connect and create objects. That user will still require either explicit privileges on the existing tables & columns or that there be permission for user PUBLIC. Either that or the users has to be granted permission to acquire a ROLE's privileges to that existing objects. Only DBA or owner privilege grants unlimited data access. Art Art S. I would run the 'finderr' tool on the host where Informix is installed first. Then, based on what the error message said - if I was unsure of what to do next I would look at the documentation for the version of the product I had installed - which is always a good idea to post here also. If after having looked at the documentation and reading about the error I was still unsure, I would post a question here that included the version of the database server and the operating system I was using. But that's just me. MM
