Informix equivalent to Oracle dbms_pipe?

Is there a (free?) Informix equivalent to the Oracle dbms_pipe package? The dbms_pipe package allows a pipe-like connection from a stored procedure to a Unix process. It's nice for being able to initiate downstream processes based on trigger firings and such. Thanks, Mark
