On our ICL DRS 6000 machines with 2 CPU's, we have : good experience with configuring 2 CPU VPs. We have seen performance : improvements both in benchmark and real-life situations. : Also PDQ works quite well on a two processor machine. : I wonder why the Informix manuals are so conservative about this : configuration issue, the could at least tell you to experiment and : test the two different configurations. : regards : Ole Skanning : ICL DATA A/S, DK-2750, Ballerup, Denmark : Phone: +45 44 89 43 34 Fax: +45 44 89 43 00 E-mail: os@icl.dk I would suspect that it depends a lot on the job mix. (Or put another way what non informix processing needs to be done.) If there is enough of this to keep the other processor relatively busy then I would think that it would be better to only configure 1 VP. If on the other hand the machine is doing almost exclusively informix data base work, it would make more sense to have two VPs configured. (Just a guess, not an expert opinion.)
