whth a restore from ontape, it will ask you if you have any logs to
restore, and if you answer no, it should then bring you online. i just did
this on my (now defunct) 5.01 server. i assumed that it works the same way
in 7.X. this is a bit alarming to hear.
i know, from experience, that with on-archive, if you restore a
dbset that doesn't contain all of your dbspaces, (for example, the dbset
that i restored contained the rootdbs, log dbspaces, and physical log space),
then the logical logs are 0'd out, as the server cannot be in a consistent
state only restoring some dbspaces. it must have logical logs in order to
have all dbspaces consistent with each other.

good, he should have done this for you regardless, it is your
installation, and you know what you want to do with it.

i've never seen anything either, but haven't directly looked. as i
stated, i assumed that with ontape, you had a choice as to whether you apply
logical logs or not.
any informix input here?
