Re: Do I must buy "On-Bar" utility?

HC-
OnBar requires the purchase and configuration of a third party storage
manager (i.e. Legato Networker, IBM ADSM, HP OmniBack etc...) to be the
interface between OnBar and the tape drives. Note drives plural - onbar
probably isn't worth fooling with unless you have multiple drives to
back up to in parallel. Sometime next year, Informix is supposed to
distribute what amounts to "Legato Networker Lite" with the engine at no
extra charge I believe. It will accomodate up to 4 parallel drives.
You probably need to take a class (2 actually, onbar + your favorite
storage manager...) or get some consulting help. I gather it's fairly
difficult to set up and tune properly, but works well and easily once
you get it right. I don't think there's any such thing as casually
dabbling with it though, it requires expending some time and money to be
worthwhile.
