networking databases

Hi I am developing a database ith Access 97.However I need to network it but have no idea about how to do this. Someone told me it was easier to use Visual Basic as a front end and network it from there, and I have also heard about going through the ODBC. I have absolutely no idea how to do this or which would be best. I would really appreciate any help that you can give Maresa
