JDBC language convertion

Hi, I try to get data from my SE 7.3 Database via JDBC. The database has configured locales en_US.819. But there are german charachters inserted via esql-c. So far so good. Now I try to get this data via jdbc and I tested may combinations of DB_LOCALE and CLIENT_LOCALE. With no success. Every time the jdbc driver will change all characters over 7F hex to 3F hex. This will be an question mark "?". I cant find a way to stop the behavior of the driver. It would be right for me to get the original values without any transformation. Any suggestions ? TIA Dirk
