Most of our sites use SE (but we also use Online), with Netscape NSAPI. We use ESQL/C and C++ to provide the database connectivity, and get quite a good performance, see http://www.Goodfellow.com for an online catalogue which uses this, and our java site news system too. It's possible to tailor the Netscape servers to allow all the user authentication (both NCSA and client-certificate) data to be stored in the Informix database too! We've also used Informix on other servers with reasonable success. The only fly in the ointment is that it would be nice to use the Netscape servers in multi-threaded mode for performance... Multi-threading isn't really possible, due to only having the support added in ESQL/C 7.22, but also various C++ libraries cannot be used either.
