Though it's frightening how many sites throw them away to /dev/null. Then wonder why they can't rebuild the system. Just a thought, from a performance point of view, if you have a system where the logs are being hammered and you're doing continuous backups, does anyone think there's a case for putting *alternate* logs on different drives, so as to eliminate contention between reads (for the backup) and writes?
