Re: NCR/Teradata or Sun/Informix For A Warehouse?

I'll confess, most of my experience is with Teradata, with limited experience with XPS -- none of it Sun. However, the following should be vendor neutral: The key to _initial_ vendor evaluation is: references, references, references. If the vendor does not have a _production_ reference of _your_ size and query concurrency requirements, congratulations!: you're a beta site. Make sure not to talk _only_ to I.S. I.S. usually has a lot of skin in the game when it comes to a database decision for a data warehouse. They are not going to give you all the bad news -- this is human nature. You need to talk to the end users. If the users are happy with the system, they will be happy to talk about what they've accomplished. Lack of user presence is probably lack of user satisfaction. Talk to the references without the vendor being present. The only reason for the vendor to be present at the meeting is to guide the conversation away from uncomfortable topics. If the system works as advertised, they should not be afraid of a few warts. John mnatale@wt.net (Michael Natale) wrote: >We are looking to build a data warehouse.
