When the .1 goes to .2, that means that a feature has been added - and maybe a bug. When .03 goes to .04, then these are bug fixes (which have better records). The UC? is the port number to your platform. In the 5 (very long) lears I've delt with Informix, I've learned to stay away from ?.0.UC1 releases. Thanks, but I'll let as many other people debug Informix releases before I get to them. As to the memory requirments, that depends heavly on what your going to do with it. We run a retail store that started with 64 MB of RAM which was woefully inadquate to the job. Bumping it up to 196 MB gave us acceptiable performance. However this was on an RS/6000 which uses a RISC chip (that takes more memory). The database server for our web site runs with 512 MB of RAM, which seems to be more than enough. For your hard drive space, consider that 3 1GB drives is MUCH BETTER than 1 3GB drive. You may fragment (their word) your data across the drives and get better performance. Mirroring helps too and it give warm fuzzys when you've missed that scheduled backup :-( Only one CPU? Informix 7 supports multi processors. The more the better, but I suspect that 1 CPU per hard drive is going to give the most bang for the buck. Pitty I'll probelly never find out for sure.
