ondblog nolog???

Hello everyone. I am working a sev 1 issue whereby I need to numerous table
deletes.
I need to turn off transaction logging while I do this.
so I was going to do this
ondblog nolog Name_of_database
delete from tab1; delete from tab2; etcondblog buf Name_of_database
any gotchas you can think of with this plan?
Thanks, Will
Will,
After issuing the dblog command you will need to do an archive ( or Fake
archive ) to actually change the logging mode of the DB.
I use onbar -b -F (you will the logging mode change in the message log).
Ontape to /dev/null will also work - keep in mind the issues with
changing the TAPEDEV to /dev/null and back.
Also remember - turning logging off will force all applications that
use "begin work" and "commit work" to error out while logging is off.
Don't know if you will have the DB to yourself or not from your note.
Have Fun.

Hi Will,
You will need to perform 0 level backup after changing logging status, Ondblog
will mark db to change the logging status. It will take effect only after 0
level archive.
As per the situation you are in you can give
ontape -s -L 0 - to take level 0 backupOr
onbar -b -F -L 0 - will be fake backup, but will change db mode as marked by
ondblog
Thanks
Nilesh
George,
Actually, when you do the "ondblog" the logging status of your database will
change -- no need to issue a fake backup. Immediately after turning off
logging, you will see a message in the online.log file. You can also verify
this new status by using onmonitor (select status, database).
Will,
One thing I can think of for now is that, your turning on and off the logging
of your database does not always work if there is any query attaching to the
database.

Kern,
True, I just checked again and it will be immediate when turning logging
off. An archive is required when turning it back on. My mistake.
