Help with database publishing

I am looking for ideas on how to publish "nice looking" reports. I have an action item register that has previously been just a large table (11 columns, 100 rows) on DOS WordPerfect. I now have put all of this information (action item name, duedate, responsedate, status, etc.) into Informix (on UNIX) so that I can pull out data in various formats. One of the formats I need is to recreate the table that I had on WordPerfect. In the past (with simpler data) I have used ACE to create troff/tbl files that I can pipe through the UNIX formatters to print out decent looking tables. This works fine with numbers and short char(20) strings but now I am dealing with char(250) that needs to be wordwrapped within a table that has predefined column widths. The UNIX tbl formatter has severe limits, using the "T{" commands, on the number of wrapped fields in a table. I have tried everything and have stumped several tbl experts. So beyond using these formatters, what else can I do? I think that a good possibility is outputting the data in delimited format which can be pulled into a spreadsheet. I know that Excel 3.0 can handle wordwrap in a cell, but the string length is limited. What about Wingz? Can it handle text well? With Wingz maybe I can actually link to the database and select the data directly instead of using flat files. One other option is to somehow use WordPerfect's macro language to develop a routine to pull data into a table. Any other ideas? Thanks, Carl Mosley ctm@mvune.att.com
