NOAGE Depreciated
Posted in 2007
Asked whether the NOAGE onconfig parameter is deprecated on 64-bit Linux/IDS 10, and whether fuzzy-checkpoint details (dskflush, safe_dskflush) can be traced via TRACEFUZZYCKPT when the engine was started with NOFUZZCKPT=1. Art Kagel replied that NOAGE isn't really deprecated, just folded into VPCLASS along with NUMCPUVPS, AFF_NPROCS and AFF_SPROC (e.g. VPCLASS cpu,num=10,aff=2-11,noage); if you still use the older separate parameters, NOAGE remains valid, though its value is OS-dependent (more useful on Solaris/HP-UX than Linux/AIX). The fuzzy-checkpoint tracing question drew no real answer, so it's unresolved.

IDS10.0.FC6 Redhat AS4 2.6.9-42.ELsmp #1 SMP ... x86_64 Greeting all, Need some advise on couple of questions: 1. Read somewhere that NOAGE has been depreciated specially on 64 bit OS and with IDS10. Is this correct? What are pro & cons using NOAGE with 64 bit and IDS10? 2. Can we get information like dskflush, safe_dskflush etc. using TRACEFUZZYCKPT env. variable if engine has been started by exporting NOFUZZCKPT=1? If not, how do I collect these info. without exporting NOFUZZCKPT=0? TIA. --------------------------------- Shape Yahoo! in your own image. Join our Network Research Panel today!
NOAGE isn't deprecated completely, it's just been subsumed along with
NUMCPUVPS, NUMAIOVPS, AFF_SPROC, and AFF_NPROCS parameters into the new
VPCLASS. So instead of setting:
NUMCPUVPS 10
NOAGE 1
AFF_NPROCS 10
AFF_SPROC 2
You would set:
VPCLASS cpu,num=10,aff=2-11,noage

Thanks Art. So, if someone is not using VPCLASS but using NUMCPUVPS,
NUMAIOVPS, AFF_SPROC, and AFF_NPROCS parameters separately, he/she should use
use NOAGE then. Isn't it?
Can you or someone please help me with my second query please?
Appreciated your dedication towards community mate.

Yes, depending on the OS. Some OSes don't support it, on some it's not so
important. Check the release notes for your platform. NOAGE is more important
on Solaris and HPUX, less so on Linux and AIX.
Don't use 9+ enough to comment authoritatively on the second question, sorry.

If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid.
