Hi All, Anyone know how to stop the 'Logical Log Complete' messages from appearing on the system console on an IBM RS600 system running Aix, and Informix 7 ? Any suggestions would be approciated. Cheers Don Johnson (not the Miami Vice actor !)
A quick a dirty method would be to alter the CONSOLE config parameter in the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG file to point to /dev/null. This, of course, would send absolutely everything that Informix would usually send to the console, to /dev/null, thus, resulting in absolutely no record of what has happened to your logs or anything... Alternatively, set CONSOLE to a file name, and simply monitor that file for any errors every so often ( or, if you're clever enough, write a perl or shell script to check the file for known errors ) Hope it helps Sean Don Johnson wrote in message <7a9cv9$1v8$1@plug.news.pipex.net>... >Hi All, > >Anyone know how to stop the 'Logical Log Complete' messages from appearing >on the system console on an IBM RS600 system running Aix, and Informix 7 ? > >Any suggestions would be approciated. > >Cheers Don Johnson (not the Miami Vice actor !) > >

I always use a file instead of a device; typically /usr/informix/log/$INFORMIXSERVER.con > This, of course, would send absolutely everything that Informix > would usually send to the console, to /dev/null, thus, resulting > in absolutely no record of what has happened to your logs or > anything... Since the only information I've ever seen in the console files is just the 'log complete' messages (and since the messages have no date or time, or information about which OnLine system generated them), and since the information is in the main log file, using /dev/null instead is pretty reasonable -- one less file to clean up with your weekly cron jobs that sort out continuously growing files. > Alternatively, set CONSOLE to a file name, and simply monitor > that file for any errors every so often (or, if you're clever > enough, write a perl or shell script to check the file for known > errors ) There's a rudimentary, 5.0x-based version of such scripts in the IIUG archives (http://www.iiug.org) under the heading utils_jl. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.60 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
You could send them to the MESSAGE file (online.log) by pointing CONSOLE to the same path as MESSAGE (something I highly recommend (you can always delete the COMPLETE messages later)). Take care.
