You have to use symbolic links in the database directory proper which point to the actual data and index files in the auxilliary directory. e.g. mv /z/info.dbs/sometabl101.dat /u/info.dbs/sometabl101.dat mv /z/info.dbs/sometabl101.idx /u/info.dbs/sometabl101.idx ln -s /u/info.dbs/sometabl101.dat /z/info.dbs/sometabl101.dat ln -s /u/info.dbs/sometabl101.idx /z/info.dbs/sometabl101.idx Note that you could have the index on one file system and the data on another using this technique. Also ensure that the auxilliary directory is as carefully protected as the proper database directory. It probably isn't officially supported by Informix, so maybe I didn't say this. Don't make any mistakes while doing the moves. Backup the database first so you can recover if something goes wrong.
