Hmmmm....I'm inclined to not be real impressed with your leadership -
this really isn't a job for a rookie - nothing personal, you
understand. You need to understand your HW, OS, DBMS engine and
probably most of all application architecture *very* well to do this job
right.
Nevertheless, seize the opportunity to learn something - read the
Informix Performance and Tuning manual, being careful not to be too
mindlessly trusting of it, play with onstat commands and use "set
explain" SQL to analyze long running queries etc....
You're right - there are too many considerations for a single post -
pick out a specific problem (surely there must be a visible one to
prompt this assignment...) and search Deja News for similar symptoms,
chances are somebody's has seen / done it before. If not, post
symptoms here - lots of sharp people frequently make suggestions. And
if you get good at it your market value will shoot up considerably - be
happy.
