I have a database that was created and maintained with Informix 5.2. I am needing to extract the information from this database. What tools do I need and what database engine do I need? Please keep in mind this is probably a one time occurance. thanks kent Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/

Presumably, you mean 5.02 rather than 5.2 (there's a big difference
between antiqueware - 5.02 - and vapourware - 5.20).
Was it OnLine or SE? Do you still have the server available? If you
still have the server, then dbexport is probably the simplest tool to
use to extract the data and schema. If you don't have the server, then
we need to know what Informix software you do have, and whether it was
OnLine (very hard) or SE (much easier). Also, is the data curently
available on the same hardware as where the database used to run, or is
it on something different? If it is different, are the old and new
hardware versions binary compatible? If not, do you use FLOAT and
SMALLFLOAT data (as distinct from DECIMAL or MONEY)? If so, the task is
considerably harder than if the hardware is compatible.
