Accounting/Payroll uses for Informix??

I'm going to attempt to setup an Informix database to do our payroll and accounting for us (well just help track the data, and do reports). Has anyone used Informix for this type of purpose? We looked at a few commercial packages, but none were flexible enough to suit our needs. We need to be able to track time/materials/etc for projects, each with a unique number. Some projects may be charged to serveral accounts. I'm sure that with enough time, this can be done, and I plan to use 4GL and/or viewpoint for the user interfaces. My views may change as I become more aware of Infomix and it's client applications. Has anyone applied Informix in this manner? We may even be interested in having a consultant with a proven track record in this type of development come in and set it up.
