RE: # of instances per machine

You should also probably include there the amount of memory and disk that you have on the server. If your platform supports processor affinity your statement would apply, provided of course that your machine has more than two processors. If it only has two performance will be a bit slow. If the platform doesn't support processor affinity tuning performance will be a pain. Since CPU VPs will be executing all over the place. ------Original Message------ From: Christian Eriksson <c-eriks@algonet.se> To: informix-list@iiug.org Sent: January 30, 2001 12:50:56 PM GMT Subject: # of instances per machine Hi! I wonder if there's any recommendations about how many instances you should configure on the same machine. I especially want to know if the statement "no more instances than physical processors" is a good rule of thumb. To support this rule is the view that each instance's CPU virtual processor should have one physical processor on it's own.
