I am thinking of purchasing it, but wanted to >get some feed back from >the family first. > I've had it for a month or so now (bought it from the Bookpool and, even with the DHL costs, payed less in US$ than it costs in UKL over here!). It's pretty good. Each database admin section tries to deal wuth SE, OnLIne and DSA, and if you're just dipping into it it can get a little confusing, but there are good hints and tips. As a technical DBA I'm sometimes quite weak on the application tools, and I found the book, as a comprehensive discussion of the whole Informix product set, valuable. Some sections, for example the one dealing with contacting Informix Technical Support, are more or less irrelevant if you're not based in the USA, and I think it's a slight pity that more attempt to avoid this sort of parochialism couldn't have been made, but that's one small criticism of an otherwise valuable book.
