In article <5412j2$oth@cssun.mathcs.emory.edu>, Richard Walther <richardw@orion.dairymans.com> writes >Boris, > Earlier this year we tried the exact same thing... 4gl (4.15), Gnu C >compiler, Solaris 2.5.1, etc..... Been there... > We recently upgraded an AIX site to 4.14 tools on their demo instance (plans to go live with it as soon as user testing is complete). Although 4.15 was available I was advised by Tech. Support not to go with it as "it core dumps". Major UNIX vendors probably use the latest versions of their C compilers to build the UNIX kernel etc. Therefore their C compilers get more testing done before release. Also I doubt Informix use GCC internally when porting, they use the standard one for the OS. Why should Informix support code from a C compiler which they did not use in porting ? It would be nice if they did since GCC is relatively OS independent... >} -- >} ======================================================================= >} Boris Niyazov Ph: 212-854-4094 >} IT Department Fax: 212-316-2623 >} Columbia Law School Email: ban5@columbia.edu >} >} -- David Williams
