As far as I can see the standard Covalent overnight archive procedure seems to be to use a single tape with a norewind device to do file system backup, archive and logical log backup. Presumably this is to ease matters for sites with no on-site sysamdin or DBA. I assume Covalent have direct experience of restoring from this backup so that it will work properly within its very obvious limitation - if the disk is lost there can be no recovery of work done since the last overnight.
