blanks in LOAD-file

I want to migrate from a DDB/4 database to OWS 7.22 on SCO 5.0.4. Unfortunately, when I use LOAD to insert data into the tables LOAD pads char-columns with blanks. Does anybody know how to suppress this filling with blanks? Thanks in advance for your help, Pascal
