Our developers are always asking for a cut of live, so we now have an
automatic process -
A backup of all live servers is sent to us once a week.
We restore them to a dev box
We run de-personalisation routines on the data
The data is then available for any one who wants it.
This gives a real restore weekly, and if the worse ever happended we
know where there is a fully tested backup a maximum of a week old.
