Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
On IDS 9.40, running an HPL unload job with "onpladm run job ... -fu" failed with "Cannot execute stored procedure start_onpload, SQL ERROR -668", while the identical job definition worked on IDS 11.50. The poster checked sysprocedures/sysprocbody (identical apart from a Windows-OS check in 11.5), tried running the job via the ipload GUI under X (Exceed), and recreated the job from scratch — all gave the same error. Others suggested ipload or the IIUG myonpload tool. No real fix was found; the poster worked around it by invoking onpload directly from the command line.

On IDS version 9.40 when I run the command
onpladm run job sp -fu
I am getting the error: Cannot execute stored procedure start_onpload SQL
ERROR -668. I run the same series of commands to create the job and the device
array on IDS 11.50 and everything works as planned. I am running everything as
user informix, and I know start_onpload is a stored procedure in sysmaster, I
just can't figure out why it's complaining. I have searched for similar
problems, but all I can find are references to running the HPL from Windows,
which I'm not. Here is the output of onpladm describe job sp -fu:
BEGIN OBJECT FASTUNLOADJOB sp
PROJECT <default>
DEVICE spdev
SERVER myinformixserver
DATABASE mydatabasename
QUERY sp
END OBJECT
And here is the output from onpladm describe device spdev:
BEGIN OBJECT DEVICEARRAY spdev
BEGIN SEQUENCE
TYPE FILE
FILE /temp/sp.unl
TAPEBLOCKSIZE 0
TAPEDEVICESIZE 0
PIPECOMMAND
END SEQUENCE
END OBJECT
If I need to provide further info, please let me know. Any help will be
greatly appreciated.
Some more info: I looked at sysprocdures on both instances for start_onpload
and they were identical. I used the excellent article by John Carlson at
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/zones/informix/library/techarticle/0307ca
rlson/0307carlson.html to create the jobs. Since I'm unsure which version of
IDS the tutorial used, I'm going to explore whether some arguments were
different between 9.40 and 11.50.

Or, you can use an X interface with ipload. The 11.11 version may have a bug
but the 9.x version run just fine under version 11. Some think this interface
is a bit clunky and maybe it is but it's easier, at least for me, to control.
I apologize for the multiple replies for the same response. What I did was run
the job I created with onpladm using the graphical tool. I will try creating
the job and device array through ipload and see what results. Thanks again
Ralph.
Hello!
I´ve always thought the graphical interface is very complicated.
Here I downloaded de myonpload application (available on the IIUG
software repository) and it´s very simple to install and use, really.
Hope it helps your needs.
Best regards.

RESOLUTION
After diving in the sysprocbody for start_onpload that is called by onpladm
and finding nothing that should result in onpload not being executed, I am
just going to run onpload from the command line instead. There is a difference
in start_onpload in 9.4 and 11.5 that checks for Windows OS, but for the life
of me I can't figure out why the call to onpload fails in the stored
procedure. Thanks to everyone for their input.
P.S. I generated a new job from scratch using ipload in an X-Window and it
gave me the same error.
