Bob Young estimated the high side as 10.5 million, however, their method of calculation has a lot of overlap. 7.5 is a much more conservative number. This is up 50% from last years estimate of 5 Million. Conservatively I used 20% to be the percentage of Linux users who use Linux in a work environment. The Linux Counter has it around 32% while a certain popular vendor has 50% of new clients as corporate clients. Based on the survey response, Informix should capture 13-15% of the market. More if they do not have competition. Thats roughly a 10 - 20 Million dollar annual boost to their gross revenues. Of course, it will take time for them to reach that, and it depends on marketing and price / support for a port. Of course, Linux is not a flashy big name environment so, most people tend to ignore it. But hey, what do I know? Its not like I did any research in to the topic or anything.... ;-) -Mikey
