Deiter writes in X-Informix-List-Id: <list.79> I have two problems in 4gl programming: >1 Using 'display array' I want to show the current line with an attribute. > pe. highlighted, inverse, ... But I don't see any easyly programmable > possibility. INFORMIX in the tbmonitor ( informing about databases or > tbspaces) shows this facility. >2 I am programming a patient's information system and I have some tables > which are to big to use the standard display array option: > define xx array [n] of record like yy.* > declare cursor ..., foreach .. into xx[i].*, ... > display array xx .... > How to write a "window to the table" ? The solution to these problems is given in Informix Tech Notes Summer 1989 under the chapter Dynamic Help Windows. By using an input array instead of display array you can use the before and after row statements to display attributes for the current line on before row and redisplay without attributes on after row. The input array also allows you to jump in and out for fetching next and previous rows. The example given works fine if occasionally a little jumpy and you can add page up and page down functions without any trouble. (The example given in tech notes doesnt have the display attributes facility shown) I dont know what the position is for reproducing the tech notes as we pay for these as part of the support contract so I assume they are copyrighted. Perhaps someone in Informix could put it on the net or on request I can mail my extended version which allows lookup on any code, text description table, highlights current code and includes page up/down facility. Deiter also asked about user rather than table database access I'm not sure precisely what was required but have a look at views where the select restricts users to subsets of rows in a table or if this isnt what you want you can always write code that checks whether a user has database permissions for a table or column by selecting from systabauth or syscolauth and then allow the program to grant or deny access dependant on the query results.
