Hi, everybody, We need keep Unicode UTF-8 strings in NVARCHAR columns (suppose, the database is created with the en_us.utf8 locale) Is it possible to pass these data to the Windows (non-web) client application with UCS-2 encoding? ------------------------------------------ Alexey Sonkin
Hi, Gerald, At the moment, we are using web client to display UTF-8 field, this is why we didn't have any problem so far. My final goal is to display Unicode text in Business Objects. Unfortunately, BO can only process Unicode from MS SQL and Oracle - not from Informix We decided to replicate some tables to MS SQL. The problem is that MS SQL only supports UCS-2 I know, we can write some application to convert the data... I'm first trying to use some standard tools (like MS DTS) for the data load. This is why I need UCS2 on the output of Informix client (ODBC) Formally, Informix is providing two locales: En_us.unicode (0xE005) - UTF-16 ??? - and en_us.utf8(0xE01C). For some reason, I can't connect with 'unicode' client locale to a database created with 'utf8' locale. May be, this is not correct way - the problem is that I can't find any info on that P.S. Good idea. I'll file it a problem to IBM PA. -Alexey -----Original Message----- From: Gerald Cousins [mailto:gcousins@us.ibm.com] What type of client application? ODBC app's will only use ucs2 as a Client locale. For esql app's then no, but it is possible to write a few functions that can convert the data to ucs2.
