As per IBM Informix JDBC Programmers manual http://publibfi.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/ct1utna.pdf Page - 3-20 " ResultSetMetaData.getTableName() Returns the table name for SELECT, INSERT, and UPDATE statements SELECT statements with more than one table name and all other statements return a String object containing one blank space." However behaviour JDBC driver seems to be diffrent from as documented in manual. Per documentation getTableName() should not return a null in any case. This is a reported problem.
