: Could you please inform me what kind of manpower you need to do the job? : Is there much difference between the different DBMS's and between Windows NT : and UNIX, qua DBA manpower? I can speak from personal experience on Informix and Oracle as I have been a DBA on both databases. Informix - (My experience is with pre-version 7 releases). After the initial install and configuration. I spent perhaps 5 hours/week on DBA activities such as tuning, validating logs and users, running utilities. If the applications are designed correctly and the database installed correctly the DBA activities were not strenuous. We defaulted public to the access priveledges 95% of the users received on a database, so we did not have extreme maintenance when new users were added. Oracle - What a nightmare! After Informix, I thought I had died and gone to DB hell. Seriously, the DBA time was extensive. It reminded me more of the DBA overhead required in IMS or DB2 on IBM mainframe. Additionally, the default tools provided with the product are nill. Therefore, most shops need to purchase toolsets to assist with the DBA activities. Good Luck! //////////////////////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Jan Richardson email:jr4676@strydr.com Business Development Director phone:(314) 275-4412 Pivotal Development Solutions fax:(3140 523-4514 12400 Olive Street Suite 555 St. Louis, MO 63141 //////////////////////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
